The Nightlife Partnership
Support for bars,pubs, clubs and other member nightlife businesses
Membership
The Nightlife Partnership began in 2002 and year on year since that time violence in the City Centre has reduced. Membership across the City continues to grow and within the City Centre there is almost saturation of membership among bars, pubs and clubs.
Barred From One Barred From All
Any person who is involved or reasonably suspected of being involved in any act of violence, threat of violence or criminal damage in or in the vicinity of a member’s premises is served with an exclusion notice for a period of twelve months in accordance with an agreed policy.
Warning letters are issued to those who come to the attention of the Partnership for minor offences. If they are caught offending for a second time, they can be served with an exclusion notice.
Diversionary processes are in place with ADSIS in relation to individuals affected by alcohol.
Meetings
Regular meetings are arranged with Designated Premises Supervisors to discuss issues around the table. This provides a forum for the DPSs to voice their opinions, concerns and agree policies. Representatives of the Police and Licensing Departments are always present. Photographs of excluded and active individuals are shown and the attendees vote on exclusions and appeals.
There are also regular Door Staff Meetings, again showing photographs of excluded individuals, which provide Doorstaff with the opportunity to raise concerns or ideas.
Crime Reduction Projects
Since its conception, the Nightlife Partnership has been involved in many projects which have helped to raise awareness and reduce crime and disorder within the night time economy, particularly focused around alcohol fuelled violence. We are constantly developing more. 2009 examples include:

Operation Safer Nights
Operation Safer Nights is the corporate operation tasked with the reduction of alcohol fuelled violence, led by Staffordshire Police. Stoke on Trent Nightlife Partnership works very closely with Operation Safer Nights. Historically, Stoke on Trent has outbreaks of disorder focused around alcohol and fast food establishments. Operation Safer Nights within Stoke on Trent is a dedicated Partnership operation taking place to reduce incidents in line with the Trust and Confidence, Community Safety and Crime Reduction agendas. Being an integral part of this operation, the Nightlife Partnership is proud of its long established links with Staffordshire Police and it endeavours to reduce incidents of violence, making the city a more safe and pleasant place to be.
